Challenge Snapshot

Duration: 15 Days
Location: Cambodia
Total Cost: $2770

On this volunteer challenge you'll get the best of both worlds as you spend one week at our wildlife sanctuary and one week in a rural community volunteering on environmental education initiatives. You will be challenged to step out of your comfort zone and think creatively as you volunteer to help address issues of animal endangerment and social inequality.

who can volunteer?

Our Wildlife and Environment Challenge is perfect for anyone who wants to volunteer to help elephants and animal welfare, improve environmental sustainability, learn about grass-roots community development or someone who just wants to use their skills to make a difference!

what you'll be doing

The wildlife sanctuary where you'll spend a week spans one million acres and is home to several endangered species including tigers, elephants, banteng, deer, sarus crane, crocodiles and several turtle species. Once densely forested and rich in biodiversity, this area has been terribly affected by illegal logging and poaching. You will volunteer to help efforts to reforest the area by keeping records of identified species, collecting seeds and planting samplings. You'll also have the opportunity to help care for injured and orphaned animals who have been rescued so that they can be rehabilitated and returned to their jungle home.

When you're in Battambang, you'll volunteer on projects aimed at improving education quality in the area, with a specific focus on environment and sustainability. You will deliver a range of workshops that will help provide the community the knowledge they need to better care for their environment. You’ll also volunteer on a renovation project at the local school to help create a safer and more inspiring learning environment for the children.

free time

During your volunteer program you will have one or two free days that you can spend exploring Siem Reap. We recommend visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Angkor Wat temples - something that should be on everyone's bucket list!

After your volunteer program you can join our optional extension trip for $900, where you'll spend a week touring some of Cambodia's most beautiful natural landscapes and important cultural sites! Your journey starts in Phnom Penh where you'll explore Toul Sleng, the Killing Fields and the Royal Palace. Next you'll head to Sen Monorom where you'll be trekking across stunning Cambodian scenery with hill tribe home stays and discovering elephants, waterfalls and much more along the way. Finally you'll head to Kratie for a Mekong river boat trip and a chance to see Irrawaddy dolphins!
