Our Impact in Laos

Despite its growing tourism industry, Laos continues to face a range of social and economic challenges. Many rural communities have limited access to essential services such as quality education, healthcare, and sustainable income opportunities, with some families living at or below the poverty line. These inequalities create real barriers to long-term development and opportunity across the country.

Where you'll be based

Joining a Challenges Abroad program in Laos offers the chance to experience a more authentic side of the country, away from the main tourist trails. You’ll be based in the beautiful heritage town of Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed destination surrounded by rivers, mountains, and golden temples.

Here, you’ll be immersed in the rhythm of daily local life - exploring night markets, sampling incredible Lao cuisine, and visiting iconic cultural sites and waterfalls nearby. With its relaxed pace and stunning scenery, Luang Prabang is the perfect base to connect, learn, and experience the very best of Laos.
