About Peru

Be wowed by the stunning Sacred Valley, imposing Andes mountain range and rich Quechua culture when you volunteer in Peru with Challenges Abroad. You’ll be based in our hub in the Sacred Valley and will be volunteering in two neighbouring towns: Urubamba and Ollantaytambo. Here you can explore unbelievable Inca ruins, learn Quechuan traditions and indulge in delicious Peruvian cuisine in your spare time from volunteering.

You will also have the opportunity to visit UNESCO World Heritage city Cusco, located not far from our hub. This beautiful city was the former capital of the Incan empire and is the perfect place to relax and unwind when you’re not volunteering with cool cafes and restaurants, cooking classes, hipster neighbourhoods and incredible churches. Or if you’re more adventurous and can brave an early morning start and high altitudes, you might want to trek to the top of Rainbow Mountain!

Volunteer programs in Peru

Even though Peru has a booming tourism industry and has made great progress in recent years, it still faces significant social and economic challenges. Many communities live below the poverty line and struggle to access quality healthcare, education and income generation opportunities, which is why we need your help to make a change.

You can volunteer on a variety of programs to make an impact in Peru with Challenges Abroad including:

Make an ethical impact when volunteering in Peru

In the Sacred Valley, you will be volunteering with our charity, the FutureSense Foundation. Our FutureSense Peru team are based in the Valley year-round and work alongside the local community to ensure that our volunteer programs are meeting current needs and are part of a long-term plan that aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Through this model our volunteers make a contribution that has an ongoing, positive impact in the community.

We are committed to ensuring that our volunteer programs in Peru and around the world are ethical and sustainable, while safeguarding children that we work with and fostering global citizenship. You can learn more about our sustainable development projects in Peru by visiting the FutureSense website.
