PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Communities in the Kathmandu Valley face many health issues. There is a lack of awareness and knowledge of hygiene and sanitation practices, non-communicable diseases, diet and nutrition, basic first aid and mental health. This is leading to high rates of preventable illness that puts strain on the health system, we well as children missing out on large parts of their education due to illness.

How You Can Help

Our charity the FutureSense Foundation works alongside the local community to develop and implement programs that address these issues and improve community health. As an health intern, you will be assisting this work. Some of the projects you could be involved in include:

  • Conducting research to understand the complex issues affecting health in the local area.

  • Designing health interventions based on your research.

  • Observing local health care workers at health centres and hospitals.

  • Developing and delivering health promotion workshops for school children and the wider community to build awareness of important topics.

Internship Structure

When you arrive in Nepal you’ll be met by our team at the airport. Over the next few days you’ll have a thorough induction and orientation where you’ll learn about Nepalese culture and history, get your bearings around town, meet community partners and gain a better understanding of the context of the projects you’ll be working on.

For the rest of your internship you'll work with FutureSense Monday - Friday and the weekend will be free to do your own travelling. In the final week of your internship you will give a presentation of the projects you've been working on to the FutureSense team and local community members.

On the last day, you’ll either be transported back to the airport or you can continue on with your own travel.
