The idea of saving and paying for an overseas program, no matter how incredible it is, can feel overwhelming. Never fear! There are so many ways you can work to fund your trip, even if you have limited time.
It’s super easy to set up a fundraising page on a platform such as Chuffed, to tell your family and friends and help spread the word that you’re heading out on one of our Challenges. You can ask those close to you for donations that will help you make your impact overseas.
Get creative and plan a fundraising event as an individual or with your team! The sky is the limit, from movie nights to organizing a high-tea or a bake sale at your university, fundraising events don’t have to be difficult and can be very successful. They also help spread the word about what you are doing and how other interested students can get involved!
The Australian government offers a loan called the OS-HELP Loan to Australian University students in Commonwealth Supported places, that are taking part in a University approved study program. This loan is for an amount up to $7764 and is added to your HECS debt. To receive an OS-HELP Loan, your program does have to be approved by your university for credit. Chat to your university or course coordinators to enquire about this process or reach out to us and we may be able to assist as well! You can also enquire if your university offers scholarships or grants for those participating in a short-term overseas program.
Switch up the $4 coffee you buy every day for a homemade one, cycle to uni one day instead of paying for the bus, buy one less drink on a Friday night or switch up your takeaway for a cheaper grocery dinner and before you know it those small insignificant amounts you spend will have added up. It might be challenging at the time, but just remind yourself how important and worthwhile your Challenge is to you and you’ll have saved a significant amount in no time!
