PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The communities that we work with in and around Mae Sariang face many health challenges. A lack of knowledge of basic hygiene and sanitation practices among community members causes a lot of unnecessary illness and places a burden on the under-resourced hospital. A general lack of awareness of sexual health, mental health, pre & post natal care, first aid, road safety, nutrition and non-communicable diseases also contributes to community health issues.

How You Can Help

Our charity the FutureSense Foundation is working year round with the local community to develop and implement programs that address these issues and improve community health. As a health intern, you will be assisting this work. Some of the projects you could be involved in include:

  • Conducting research to understand the complex issues affecting health in the local area.

  • Designing health interventions based on your research.

  • Developing and delivering health promotion workshops for school children and the wider community to build awareness of important topics.

  • Assisting local health care workers with community screenings (depending on your qualifications/experience).

  • Running first aid and emergency health training sessions for community volunteers.

Internship Structure

When you arrive in Thailand you’ll be met by our team at the airport. Over the next few days you’ll have a thorough induction and orientation where you’ll learn about Thai customs and culture, get your bearings around town, meet community partners and gain a better understanding of the context of the projects you’re working on.

For the rest of your internship you'll work with FutureSense Monday - Friday and the weekend will be free to do your own travelling. You will be primarily based in Mae Sariang, but may also spend some time in the remote hill tribe villages we work with. In the final week of your internship you will give a presentation to the FutureSense team and local community members of the projects you've been working on.

On the last day, you’ll either be transported back to the airport or you can continue on with your on travel.
