PROGRAM OVERVIEW

On our Cambodia Community Challenge you’ll be immersed in the local culture on your program in Battambang, an area known for its beautiful colonial architecture, bat caves and the river that flows through its centre!

how you can help

We believe that education is the key to ending the poverty cycle. As a community challenge volunteer you will be helping us drive forward our long-term education goals in our community. Working at a supplementary education centre or government primary and secondary schools, you will be designing and delivering hands-on workshops that supplement the rigid government curriculum and get children excited about going to school.

You could be focusing on:

  • Conversational English

  • STEM (science, technology, engineering, maths)

  • Creative Arts

  • Environmental Awareness

Your workshops will teach children important skills like critical thinking, problem solving and teamwork that will engage them in their education and help reduce drop-out rates.

program structure

When you arrive in Cambodia you’ll be met by our team at the airport. Over the next few days you’ll have a thorough induction and orientation where you’ll learn about Khmer culture and history, get your bearings around town, meet community partners and gain a better understanding of the context of the projects you’re working on.

Over two weeks, you’ll volunteer Monday – Friday with the weekend free to do your own travel and exploring. Your day will usually be structured with a morning session (approx. 3 hours) after breakfast and then a session of the same length after lunch. Your afternoons and evenings will be free for you to relax and explore Battambang or do any required preparation for the next day.

On the last day, you’ll either be transported back to the airport in Siem Reap or you can join our extension trip overland tour of Cambodia!

After your volunteering you can join our optional extension trip for $900, where you’ll spend a week touring some of Cambodia’s most beautiful natural landscapes and important cultural sites! Your journey starts in Phnom Penh where you'll explore Toul Sleng, the Killing Fields and the Royal Palace. Next you'll head to Sen Monorom where you'll trek across stunning Cambodian scenery and spend the night in a homestay at a local hill tribe village. Finally you'll head to Kratie for a Mekong river boat trip and a chance to see Irrawaddy dolphins!
